HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The meeting convened for the purpose of forming a Horticultural Society in Te Kuiti was held in the Waitomo County office on Saturday evening last. M. W. Adams, as convenor of the meeting, explained matters in connection with the proposed society. Several of those present spoke in favour of the formation of the society. On the motion of Messrs Matthew and Steven3, it was resolved that a society be formed to be called Te Kuiti Horticultural Society.—Carried. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P.; president, Mr N. C. Matthew; vicepresidents, Messrs Adams, Hardy and Stevens; secretary and treasurer, Mr Castell; committee, Major Lusk, Rev. Armstrong, Dr Zobel, Messrs Dransfield, H. Matthew and Ogier._ The subscription for the ensuing year was fixed at 5s for gentlemen and 2s 6d for ladies. Forty names were submitted of those wishing to join the society. Resolved that the secretary be authorised to obtain the necessary stationery and tickets printed. The following district representatives were appointed: —Mr FrankFoster, Otorohanga; Messrs F. Green George Kay, and Shakespeare, Kawa; Messrs George Bevege and J. Smith, Pio Pio; J. Smyth, Aria; Mr O'Dwyer, Paemako; Mr Neilsen, Mairoa; Mr Board, Hangatiki; Messrs G. Berry and M. Gillander, Waiteti; Mr W. Johnston, Waitomo; Mr Reid and Mrs Josephs, Oparure; Mr Hayson, Mangapehi. It was resolved that the ladies of Te Kuiti and neighbourhood be asked_ to form a committee at the next meeting of the Society which wi'l be duly advertised. Resolved that the date for the. show be decided at the next meeting, the secretary in the meantime to obtain data from neighbouring societies. The committee will hold their next meeting on Thursday, October sth, at 3.30 p.m. at the Waitomo County office. ______«—««-
