A deputation from the Ohura County Council asked the Minister for Public Works this morning to fix a date for the ceremony of turning the first sod at the Ongarue end of the StratfurdOngarue railway. The Hon. R. McKenize replied that as soon as the surveyors, who are now engaged on the work, have located the firs'; mile of cross section the constructional wcrk will be commenced. He was unable to give any definite indication of the date by which that preliminary work would be completed. The Ohura County Council proposes to celebrate the beginning of the line by a ceremonial gathering, in which the Prime Minister, the Minister for Public Works, and the representatives of the neighbouring constituencies will be invited to participate.
