Mr G. McDonald's application for permission to take two loads of gravel and pumice from the Borough pita was granted. The accounts as presented were passed for payment. Resolved, that the works as authorised in the Engineer's report be proceeded with. Engineer's Report.—"ln accordance with your instructions I beg herewith to report on the cost of forming footpaths in King, Jennings, Tawa and Rata streets. In King and Tawa streets there are fairly large semidrains which Were, I suppose, either scoured out or taken out as borrow pits to form the centre of the road, which if it is desirable to make a good job should be.filled up; and in the case of Tawa street a hew ditch cut near the eastern boundary of the street, so that the adjacent section holders can drain into it, and also to allow the present formtion to be widened when such is necessary. It will also entail lengthening the existing culvert and also kerbing the footpath in the cutting near Matai street to prevent erosion. The cost of this footpath on above lines from Bridge to Matai street I estimate at £2 10s per chains —22 chains—otherwise to make a footpath along fence only, whichl would not recommend, the cost would be about £1 10s per chain. In Jennings and Rata streets the creek from the Tomo would also be better if diverted along fence and the present course of ditch taken as the footpath making due allowance for widening road when necessary. I propose extending present drain at culvert
about 15 feet and widening road about 10 feet to take footpath taking earth tp fill where necessary from cat* ting farther up road so as to form a water-table there. The cost of same will be about £1 18s per chain including above item. The total length of this footpath is about 16 chains."
