HOSPITAL BOARD.
—.-- At the meeting of the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board held on Thursday last at Hamilton, the question of the typhoid cases at Kawhia was discussed, Inspector Bennett explaining the steps which had been taken to secure suitable accommodation for those unfit to be removed. He mentioned that valuable assistance had been rendered by Dr Jenkins. Mr Shaw, the Kawhia representative was authorised to act for the Board should a further necessity arise. A bequest of £SO from Mr James Cotterill wa3 received. The chairman and secretary were appointed to represent the Board at the Hospital Boards' Conference, at Wellington. On the rceommendation of the Legal and Finance Committee the salary of Dr Douglas was increased to £7OO per annum. The surgeon superintendent's report showed that during the month 87 patients had been admitted, and there were at date 91 inmates. Only one of the four probationers appointed had remained, and Nurse Higginson had resigned. Two probationers had been appointed temporarily, and two more were required. Mr J. W. Warren submitted a scheme of extensions to the Nurses' home and the installation of a rainwater supply to the laundry, which was approved. The Treasurer reported that there was £6372 7s lid due from local bodies, and £lll6 12s 6d as Government subsidy, but the general account was only £372 7s lid to credit, and it would be necessary to arrange for a temporary overdraft, pending the receipt of the above amounts. Mr J. E,. Duncan, Secretary to the Huntly Hospital and Medical Society, forwarded a copy of a resolution passed at a meeting of the society, to the effect that they were prepared to inaugurate a hospital fund, members of the society to subscribe Is per quarter to cover the cost of treatment of members, their wives and children. This would mean about £IOO annually, as there were 500 members of the society. The matter was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee. The Chairman reported on the recent visit of himself, Dr Dougla3, other members, and the Secretary of the Board to the Taumarunui Hospital. The report was approved.
