COUNTRY NEWS.
(Own Correspondents.) Paemako. The long continued spell of dry weather has given place to copious downpours, which have had the effect of making the place assume its happiest aspect. The grass is still grow- j ing, and everything is looking j very best. If the frosts | are only a crille late in their advent j winter "feed will be plentiful for our | stock. | Mr F. Kendell's new house is almost completed. It is a very handsome structure, and does the builder, Mr Tarrant, great credit. The bachelors of this district treated residents, on Easter Monday night to a social and dance, which was held in the school. The function proved a great success. There were some thirty couples in attendance. Messrs Kilmartin, Hearn and Asplin supplied the music, while Mr James Sline carried out the duties of M.C. Two of our settlers, Messrs O'Dwyer and Davis, are having milking machines put i:i for use next season. Mr Davis has purchased Mr N. Mahoney's property, and is a farmer who works on the most progressive lines. The annual meeting of householders to elect a school committee for the ensuing year was held last week, when the following were elected: W. J. Sineock, D. C. Anderson, G. Churcber, D. Webby, P. Tarrant.
