FIRE BRIGADE WORK.

CONFERENCE AT lIOKETIKA

The Secretary of Te Kuiti Fire Brigade reported at Monday night's meeting of the Borough Council on the recent visit of members to the Hokitika Conference. In his report he stated that £24 6s was collected and £3 12s od handed to each of the five members who went as a contribution towards their expenses. The team left Te Kuiti on Monday, February 27th, and reached Hokitika on the Thursday. The conference was opened on Friday, and on Saturday the demonstration started, and proved mo3t educative to the members. All the latest appliances and fastest and most practical methods of dealing with a burning building were shown, as also saving life. Westport, Greymouth, Lytteiton and other fire brigade stations were visited, at the latter station the members arriving on practice night. The members only entered for manual work at the demonstration, as they had not the necessary gear for other work. The trip had proved highly beneficial to all who went. The Secretary thanked the people of Te Kuiti for their contributions, and urged on them and especially the property owners in Rora street, the absolute necessity of supporting the brigade. Two firemen in uniform attended all functions in the Public Hall.
