FARMERS' UNION.

KIO KIO BRANCH. The annual meeting of this branch was held at Kio Kio on Saturday Ist inst. There were present —Messrs A. J. Ross (in the chair), Budge, William Wylie, Walter Wylie, Crumpstone, Storey, J. Wallace, Rogers, Rankin, Wintour, Banks, Ellis, Ogle, and Hudson. The Chairman, in his review of the first financial year of the branch's existence, referred to the increase in membership to twenty-five, proof of the desire of the settlers to present a solid front on all matters bearing on the interests of the community. In this way more consideration had been shewn by public bodies and local wants had received greater attention. Through the medium of the branch, the local telephone bureau had been established, an issue of postal notes at the local post office had been obtained, the roads of the district had been improved, and a school had been established at Rangitoto. Owing to the antagonistic attitude of the Minister for Railways, the question of goods shed accommodation at the railway station was temporarily shelved pending negotiations on the part of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Union. The Secretary's balance-sheet was adopted. Seven new members were elected thus increasing the membership of the branch to thirty-two, and the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mr A. Ross; Vice-chairman, Mr J. Budge; Executive Committee, Messrs A. J. Ross, J. Budge, Walter Wylie and William Hudson; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr W. Hudson; Auditor, Mr E. A. Forster; Conference Delegate, Mr J. Budge. The Chairman reported a visit of inspection by the County Engineer as a result of which sundry local road works had been promised, to be carried out in the spring. It was decided that the veterinary chest recently lodged with Mr Cooper, be opened to all residents of the district at the rates already laid down. Remits to the Provincial Conference were passed, covering the subjects of milk-testing, land valuation, Farmers' | Political Party, and the appointment of agricultural chemists in country districts.
