FIRE AT RATANUI.
I SETTLERS' LOSSES. Mr V. Jackson, of Ratanui, had the j misfortune to have his house burned '■■ to the ground on Wednesday last. I There were two other settlers living ;in the house with Mr Jackson Messrs ■ Buckley and Lomond. All the men j went to their respective duties in the i morning, to return and find everything I burned. I All were heavy losers, especially | Mr Jackson, who is a well-known | photographer, he having lost all his | plates of scenery of various parts of I the King Country, which it is im- [ possible ever to procure again. Mr I Jackson had the most complete set of ; pictures of any photographer, of King | Country views. It was very fortunate i for Mr Jackson that he had not his | camera at home, the camera being a j very valuable one.
