PELORUS JACK ON DUTY.

The many hundreds of passengers who have witnessed the frolics of "Pelorus Jack" will be pleased to know that he was again at his post on Wednesday afternoon. When the Arahura passed Point Harding at 1 p.m. yesterday "Jack" gave the vessel his customary pilotage, and disappeared, after a brief gambol in view of a number of passengers. On Wednesday the Marine Department received the following telegram:— "Fish found bottle-nosed whale. Pelorus Jack seen since.—G. Webber, French Pass." This identifies the fish which was found on the beach at D'Urville Island, and which was believed to be Pelorus Jack. Captain Hay, of the Nikau, told the officers of the Arahura at Nelson that on the previous night he saw "Pelorus Jack" playing around his vessel's bows for some time.
