MARAKOPA SPORTS.

There was a large gathering at the athletic sports, held at Marakopa on St. Patrick's Day. Mr Jennings, M.P. for the electorate, was present and was the recipient of many hearty hand shakes, all being pleased to see he had not forgotten this frontier settlement. The officials and committee all worked hard to make the day a success, and a special word of praise must be reserved for the secretary and treasurer, Mr R. C. Honore. The day's sport ended up with a dance in the evening in the Public Hall. The committee desire to thank Mr E. C. Stanley for the use of his paddock and piano, and also Mr Fred Klein for his interesting exhibition of "Jui Jitsu." Results: —

Boat race, pair oar, clinker built boats, one mile. Hunter Bros. 1, Pask and Klein 2. A good race for half way after which Hunter Bros, pulled out and won easily by a dozen lengths. Swimming Race, 75 yards.-—Ben McGrath 1, Fred Klein 2. A very fast race, Frank Bell won but was disqualified for jumping in too soon. 150 Yards Maiden.—Rogers 1, Barlow 2. Stepping the Chain.—Kupa 1, Huri Noble 2. Ladies' Bracelet, 220 yards. Barlow 1, Rogers 2. A magnificent race, Barlow winning by six inches. Tilting at the Ring.—Watterson 1. Twenty-five entries. Settlers' Race, 100 yards.—Cha=. Willison 1, Sam Voyce 2. Throwing the Cricket Ball. —Watterson 1. Hurdle Race —C. Wright 1, Poutawera 2. Sack Race.—Percy Mold 1, P. W. Bell 2. 220 Yards Handicap.-—R. Barlow 1, Rogers 2. This was another very close race, Barlow just managing to win again by six inches. Half-mile Handicap.—Geo. Richards 1, Tom Vicary 2. Long Jump.—Percy Moki 1, Cyril Wright 2. Hop, Step and Jump. —Rehi Keri 1, Koha 2. Wrestling, catch-as-catch-can.— Tahataku. Wrestilng, Cumberland style.—Tahataku. Boys' Race, 100 yards.—Pu Kamana 1, F. McGrath 2. 220 Yards Handicap. —Percy Moki 1, Rehi Keri 2.
