PELORUS JACK.

WAS DEAD AND IS ALIVE AGAIN LMY TKl.liiniAVH.— ASSOCIATION".] Wellington, Last Night. This afternoon Mr Allport, secretary for the Marine Department, received a letter from Mr G. Webber, settler at French Pass, in which he said that Messrs Wells Bros., of D'Urville Island, had found what they believed to be the carcase of Pelorus Jack. Mr Webber, who had seen Jack many hundreds of times, wa3 asked to identify the remains, and as a result the opinion was expressed that the colour, size and shape exactly corresponded with what they had seen of the fish in water. The length of the carcase is, they state, just one inch under 14 feet, and the girth between 9 and 3 0 feet. "I should say, says Mr Webber, "that he has been dead for a week or ten days, and has been considerably bitten by sharks, probably aftev death." The department has sent instructions to take photographs of the fish and secure the skeleton. The Hinemoa can call for it. The Department is also requesting masters of passing vessels to ascertain if Pelorus Jack is frequenting his usual haunts. Wellington, This Day. The captain and officers of the s.s. Pateena report having seen Pelorus Jack on Saturday afternoon, and Seaman Nelson, who was on the iookout on Monday night, saw him at ten o'clock. Mr W. F. Bond, of Nelson, also saw him, and says he was with the Pateena for miles, and very frisky.
