TE KUITI STATION.
Its Relative Importance. STRIKING FIGURES. A careful analysis of the traffic, in goods and passengers, at the principal stations between Auckland and Palmerston North, .as given in the railway statement, shows that Te Kuiti occupies, if not the leading place, a very high one, barely second to any place within that long stretch of line. The race for first place is being closely run between Marten and Te Kuiti. Fifteen different classes of traffic were taken and the relative importance of Te Kuiti, Frankton, Ohaupo, Taihape and Marton duly noted in respect of them. Summarised, out of the 15 classes, Marton occupied first place in 4, second in 5, third in 4, fourth and fifth in one each. Te Kuiti occupied first in 4, second in 5, third in 3, fourth in 2 and fifth in one; Taihape was first in 4, second in 1, third in 3, fourth in 4 and fifth in 3; Ohaupo was first in 3, second in 2, third in 1, fourth in 1 and fifth in 3; Frankton was first in none, second in 2, third in 4, fourth in 5, and fifth in 4. The fifteen classes of traffic were: —Tickets issued, outward parcels, cattle, sheep, timber, grain, goods, inward parcels, cattle, sheep, timber, grain, merchandise, minerals and the value of all goods forwarded. This fairly balances one station against another without favouring any.
