THE LAND BILL.

The Land Bill was introduced into the House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon, by Governor's message, and was explained by the Prime Minister. Summarising the Bill, Sir Joseph Ward said the Bill provided:— (1) Ail endowment lands remain renewable lease. (2) Lease in perpetuity lands (999 years), right of freehold, both Crown lands and lands for settlement. (3) Renewable leases for lands settlement, both existing and future, without right of freehold for the former, as was in the Bill last year. (4) All other Crown lands given right of freehold, the Crown receiving 25 per cent, between the original value and that at the time of sale, (5) Private lands over £40,000 in value by agreement or compulsion to be acquired by Crown lands leased to settlers with freehold conditions to tenants from owners. This applies to Maori lands also including the compulsory clauses.
