BRIDGING THE MOKAU.
At a public meeting of settlers held at Awakino on September 3rd, 1910, it wai unanimously resolved to respectfully bring under the notice of the Minister of Public Works the matter of bridging the Mokau river. The present method of crossing by means of a punt is dangerous, and a great deterrent to the general advancement of the whole district. This fact has been recognised by several successive Ministers of Public Works and by the late Mr Seddon, with the result that a distinct promise was made by the latter many years ago that the bridge should be built within two years. Later Mr Jennings stated at his meeting there, just prior to the general election of 1908, that he had the authority of the then Minister of Public Works for saying that the bridge would be built within eighteen months. Considering the paramount importance of the bridge to the whole district and the fact that it is on the main road connecting Taranaki with Auckland, the meeting prayed that these promises will be earried out and thus supply a most urgent need to the district.
