SENIOR.

Te Kuiti (II) v. Otorohanga (5). Immediately after the completion of the junior match, the seniors took the field. Te Kuiti were minus four or five of their picked players, but managed to fill up their team. H. Cleaver, who was elected captain, won the toss and chose to play with the wind. Shortly after the kick-off Otorohanga marked in front of Te Kuiti's goal, the kick going wide and Jones receiving found touch with a good line kick. The Te Kuiti forwards were responsible for a good dribble, the Otorohanga forwards replying and Feary saved with a kick into touch. The local forwards again got possession and carried the ball over the Te Kuiti line where R. Holden secured and scored, the kick being successful. Otorohanga s—Te5 —Te Kuiti nil. From the kick-off the Te Kuiti forwards took a hand in matters and a touch in goal relieved Otorohanga, who by degrees worked the Te Kuiti men into their own territory and compelled a force, Otorohanga marked in Te Kuiti's 25 but the shot at goal ' failed. Shortly after this Tewipa, the Te Kuiti wing, receiving cleanly a high punt, raced over the line and scored, the kick at goal failing. Te Kuiti 3—Otorohanga 5. The Otorohanga forwards again looked dangerous when Feary nipped in, gathered the ball, and found touch. With play in mid-field half-time was called. Shortly after resuming the game the ball came out to Feary, who, after a fine run, scored behind the posts, | Poole took the kick and registered a goal. Te Kuiti B—Otorohanga 5. The Otorohanga forwards carried play into the Te Kuiti 25 where it remained for some time -and only sound defence prevented a score. Several forward rushes up and down the field followed, when in the Otorohanga 25 Te Kuiti were awarded a free-kick from which Poole landed a fine goal. Te Kuiti 11—Otorohanga 5. Again the Otorohanga carried play into the Te Kuiti 25, the visiting backs were kept hard at it and by good work once again cleared their line. Otorohanga again attacked strongly and Te Kuiti had to force. Several free-kicks were awarded to Te Kuiti in succession for various breaches on the part of the local players and at times these kicks relieved matters considerably. Te Kuiti forwards carried play into the Otorohanga 25, when a lengthy kick by Cumpstone gained a lot of ground. In the latter stages of the game the Otorohanga men had Te Kuiti on the defence, but could not cross the line, sometimes through hard luck and -sometimes through bungling and mishandling the ball. The whistle went with the score—Te Kuiti 11—Otorohanga 5. Mr Burke offiicated as referee and shewed absolute impartiality. NOTES. The result of the game came as a surprise tp the Te Kuiti supporters as their team was minus some of their strongest players. However, all credit is due to the substitutes who took their places. It seems unnecessary when all played so well to particularly mention any players. Every man in the winning team knew he had to do his utmost and he undoubtedly did it as the result of the game shewed. If mention be made of any players in the winning team possibly Feary, Jones, Tewipa, the Cleaver Bros., I. Kerr, Hill and Pitcon shewed up most prominently, whilst Poole's good kicking must not be forgoten. In the Otorohanga team the Clarke Bros., Tiwa, Symes, Turner and Burke were always on the ball, and doing solid work, [n passing it must be remarked that we §6 not think the Otorohanga team shewed its proper form, and feel convinced that better form will be shewn by them before the season closes.
