TO OLIVE.
ON RECEIPT OF A LOCK OF HER HAIR. (By Francis Colin Stuart.) My\love, although from thee I'm \ severp.d, . AncKl miss thy sweet caress; ! Thy peerless form seems near me As I gaze on thy auburn tress. Thy face, draped with golden ringlets In fancy's by me now — Thy lips and thy deep, dark eyes, love, Beneath thy snow white brow. I think of the day when my soul, love, First worshipped at thy shrine, And I read in thy jewelled eyes, love That thy heart was only mine, And I think of the hour we parted, When last I kissed thy cheek, And pain strangely mixed with gladness, In hearts too full to speak. But soon I'll be with thee again, love, And once more our steps shall stray By each spot that our love has hallowed, And each old familiar way We'll go to the flowing Mangakai.katea, And list to its dear old song. While on its banks we'll linger, The ferns glad green among. And we'll stray, hand clasped in hand love, By fragrant festooned bowers, Where I'll carve thy name and mine, love, And twine thy hair with flowers; And we'll pass thro' the bush at twilight, As the trees throw their shadows deep, And I'll feel thy slender arm, love, Around me softly creep. Then aloft the stars will glitter, Like angel eyes bent on thee; That night with her robber shadows, May not steal thy face from me. Then again our vows we'll whisper Seal'd with love's lingering kiss— Oh! time move on swifter pinion— To consummate our bliss. Till then this golden ringlet, To me shall be the sign That thine eyes, thy lips, thy tresses; Thy hand, thy heart are mine; It shall be to me the token That though sundered for a._day, Thy soul and mine are wed, love, j Till time shall pass away.
