MATIERE.
Own Correspondent. On Tuesday night a dinner was given by Mr D. Sullivan, of Ohura, to his old friends at Ryan's Matiere house, about forty sitting down to a well-spread table The evening proved one of the most enjoyable ever held in the district, while the dinner left nothing to be desired, and speaks well for the highly efficient management of the house The following is a lis!; of toasts: The King, proposed by Mr T. Hunt, chairman; Parliament, Mr W. T. Morpeth—Mr A. IT. Hyde; Trade and Commerce, Mr Dennison Mr Carrie; Local Bodies, Mr 0. Ryan Mr G. Stevenson; Ho <t, the chairman ; Railways, Mr Clcnaghan--Mr Williams; Visitors, Mr Manning—Mr T. Morpeth and Dixon; Ladies, Dr Collins-Mr 11. Ryan; House staff, Mr Monk ---Mr L v Ryan. During the evening several musical and vocal items were given. Mr Sullivan, who has been a settler in the Ohura for fourteen years, recently sold his farm and leaves al; the end of the present month for a trip to the Old Country and the land of his birlh. Mr Sullivan will be greatly missed from the district, where he is held in the highest esteem by all.
