. +— ..._._ Own Correspondent. Miss E. M. Jennings, who recently resigned her position as assistant teacher at the local school, was presented before her departure with a handsome piece of silver plate by the children as a mark of the love and esteem in which she was held by them. Miss A. E. Joyce, her successor, has started her duties. Mr T. E. Lowe, headmaster, has been granted leave and left for Rotorua to recoup, while in the meantime he has been relieved by Mr W. H. Smith. The progress of the township is advancing very rapidly. New settlers are getting on to their sections, and several farms have changed hands at satisfactory figures. The creameries are still putting through a satisfactory quantity for this part of the season and the farmers are fully alive to the future progress of the industry and are hard at it breaking in their land. Next season will see a wonderful difference in areas laid down in grass hitherto usually adorned with fern. The formation of a Town Board is the next step I hoar which our leading business people are taking in hand. A meeting of householders will be held in Turner's Hall on Monday next for the purpose of electing a school committee. It is essential that every householder should attend. A number of natives have left here for Hangatiki to attend at the opening of the large meeting house which takes place on Saturday, where I understand Maoris will be congregated from all parts of the Robe Potae and Waikato. A short sitting of the Magistrates' Court was held here on Thursday, before Mr F. O'B. Loughnan. Police v. McFarlane, the accused was convicted and fined for the theft of a "jack" from Mr Howe, of Hautura; Johnson and Co., Ltd. v. Hume Whakamana, ordered to pay £1 His and costs; several old age pensions were also dealt with.
