HONIKIWI.

(Own Correspondent.) On Saturday night a social and dance took place in the School room. Owing to a number being away, and to other circumstances there was but a moderate attendance. Those who did come arrived la*e. in consequence of members of the various households having been away to the opening ceremony of Kopua bridge. However, as usual when young folk? gather bent on enjoyment a very pleasant evening was passed, dancing being kept up till midnight. Mr T. Nicholson contributed a song, and Miss C. R. Budden a recitation. "The Chinese Honeymoon." Dance music was provided by Mrs Newi and Mr Rohi. In the absence of others Mr Wallace Budden was called upon to act as M.C. which with the assistance of. Miss A. West, he did in a very creditable manner. This year there is a very large amount of new land being put under the plough by almost all the settlers. Turnip, oat, and grass paddocks are gradually increasing in size and number.

The opening of the Kopua bridge on Saturday by the popular member for the electorate. Mr Jennings, was an event of some importance, and drew a good number of people away from their sections. Although people here only occasionally use thpt road it is a great improvement to have a good bridge to pass over instead of having to ford a deep stream. Much sympathy has been expressed with Mr Budden and family in the heavy loss they have sustained in the burning of their stables and bam.
