KAWHIA.

Own Correspondent. - Obituary.— We are sorry to have to "ecord the death of Mr A. F. Wilson, chemist, of Kawhia. which took place on August 6th last, at the early age of -13 years. Mr Wilson will be greatly misled from our mi Ist. For some years Mr Wilson has been a martyr to acute bronchitis. He arrived from the Mother Country some years ago, settling first at New Plymouth, and the climate there not suiting him, became to Kawhia, and tqok over the business that had been carried on by Mr Mann. Deceased leaves a widow to mourn her loss. - Roads. - Much indignation has been expressed at the artion of the Government in closing down many of the road works in this district. We are pleased to see the Waiharakeke bridge is still in progress. This is a very important work, and, when completed, will be a great boon to the settlers and travelling public. The s.s. Rimu is expected shortly with a large consignment of timber, which will be landed at the site. Messrs T. Scott and W. Kerr have recently purchased a number of cattle throughout the district. They are now on the road with about 200 bead for the Ohaupo market. The s.s. Rimu arrived in Kawhia Harbour last Tuesday with a line of 400 ewes shipped from New Plymouth by Mr Jones of Marokopa. The sheep arrived in good condition. On arrival at Te Maika the steamer was boarded by Pilot Walter Morgan, and taken to Lemon Point, where the sheep were landed. It is rumoured that a special S.M. Court sitting is to take place shortly in connection with our butter factory, several settlers being summoned by the proprietors for failing to fulfil their guarantees. It seems a pity that the settlers do not pull together more, and support the dairying industry, as we have an ideal district for dairying purposes. MrW. Davis, of Oparau, has recently had a Ridd Milking plant fitted up at bis farm.
