STRATFORD-MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY.
Ongarue Route Adopted. By Telegraph ". ~V1& WELLINGTON, Thursday. In connection with the StratfordMain Trunk Railway, it was decided last night by the Prime Minister to adhere to the Ongarue route. A deputation representing both routes waited on the Premier. Mr O'Dwyer acted as spokesmman for the deviation, and Mr C, Ryan for original authorisation. The Premier said the matter had been considered half a dozen times in Cabinet, and, it had been decided the Ongarue route was the one to be followed. The deviation would entail a further expenditure of about £300,000 and could not be entertained, as it would mean asking Parliament for an additional expenditure such as no other part of the Dominion was asking at the present time.
