KING COUNTRY TOWNSHIPS.
Deputation to Native Minister,
WELLINGTON, Thursday
A deputation of King Country residents, introduced by Mr Jennings, .waited upon the Hon. James Carroll on Weudnesday morning in regard to various matters. The Rev. Mr Ward, chairman of the Taumarunui Council, referred to matters in connection with the finance of that Council. The Minister promised to communicate on the subject with the president of the Maori Land Board.
Mr Boddie, Te Euiti, referred to the necessity for bringing Native lands in the vicinity of the townships under the Rating Act, particularly in regard to special rating for loan purposes. He invited Mr Carroll to visit Te Kuiti during the recess and make himself acquainted with present conditions. Mr Boddie also placed the position of railway matters at Te Kuiti before the Minister, who promised to have a report on the whole matter submitted.
Mr Carroll said he would have much pleasure in accepting the invitation and discussing the question with both Europeans and Natives. He also promised to facilitate the acquisition of a Native land site for the purpose of a dairy factory at Piopio.
