MAPIU RACES.

A race meeting was held ait Rewatu's farm. Mapiu. on Saturday last. At the picturesque little course on the banks of the Mapiu river, a fairly large gathering assembled to witness the sport, and a thoroughly enjoyable day was spent. Excellent entries had been received for the various events, and good fields were the order of the day. Every horse that started was a genuine trier, and excitement ran high from the fall of the flag to the winning post. Following are the results : Maiden Hurdles.— Porangi 1, Tupuhi 2. Maiden Plate.—Ocean Beach 1, Tupuhi 2. Aorsngi Cup. - Kawau 1, Korari 2. Mapiu Handicap.—Kawau 1, Hailstone 2.

Pony Race. - Clover 1, Puna 2. Handicap Trot.—Dick 1, Mapiu 2.
