An estimate of a building containing a reading room 30 x 30 feet with a library 18 x 30 feet, and two offices in front, was estimated to cost about £4OO, which the committee thought too costly, and a reduced plan of a building with the reading room 22 x 30 feet and library lift. 6in. x 12 feet with the same sized front offices, resulted in obtaining an estimate at about £350, which the committee thought practicable. It is proposed to raise this sum by endeavouring to get practical citizens to subscribe, say, £2OO in debentures of, say L'l each, payable out of such funds as may be realised from the results of the offices, and the use of the reading room for meetings, etc., and the balance on mortgage.
