'Ha position is thus simplified considerably, hut the gazetting of the townships mentioned, for the purpose of bringing (hem under the provisions of the •■Native Townships Act, 1905" placed the townships under the Maori 1 .and Hoard, and if is now the duty of ih< President to have a roll compiled ami have a local body formed. The position is somewhat complicated owing to the fact that the County Council has obtained a loan for the purpose of improving the streets of the township, and the work is now being put in hand. The general feeling of residents is that it would be wise to defer the setting up of a Native township board until the work projected by the County Council is completed, and an endeavour will probably be made to have this course adopted.
