TE KUITI LIBRARY.
A Public meeting was held at the Chronicle office on Tuesday evening for the purpose of discussing the ways and means of erecting a library building. Mr W. R. Franklin, chairman of the Library committee, presided, and explained the position. He said the section had been transferred by Mr Dar-' row to trustees, and there was an understanding that a building would be erected forthwith. He suggested that a building could be erected at a cost of £IOO, or rather more, that would serve for a library and could be utilised as a meeting room. He considered the necessary amount could be raised by debentures, and the revenue derivable from the use of the meeting room could redeem the debentures. The Chairman said he placed the proposal before the meeting for discussion and would like to have the opinions of thoee present. A general discussion followed, those present being all agreed as to the necessity for active steps in the matter. It was stated that a sum of money was still to the credit of the old Debating Society, and the opinion w*s expressed that if the committee was approached it would be possible to have the funds devoted to the proposed library building, as was originally intended. Eventually it was decided to that a committee consisting of Miss Melling, the Chairman, and Messrs Fortescue, Willis, and Howarth should be appointed for the purpose of drafting a scheme, to be submitted to a public meeting at the Chronicle office on Monday, December 14th.
