MANGAROA.

" The much talked of plain and fancy dress ball given by the bachelors of Mangaroa eventuated on Friday last in the Ohura public hall, and in spfba of the bad weather the hall was packed, visitors being present from almost every part of the district. Early in the week the committee were busily engaged with the decorations, under the management of Mr McClure, senior. The display of bunting, nikau palms and Japanese lanterns was most artistically arranged. One special feature of the decorations was -the drawing by Mr McClure of'a passenger train, representing the Stratford — Ongarue railway, with the words 1 writtin" above it in largeletters: "Ongarue to Mangaroa and we won't be' happy till we get it." Several gentlemen ifcr.tributed scngs during the evening, |e music being supplied throughout by Mr Meredith, Mr W. H. Dobbie acting as M.C. The whole proceedings reflected the greatest credit on the management, under the capable secretaryship of Mr Fred. Stanley. The following is the list of ladies and gentlemen who appeared in fancy costume :
