Cater's spacious dining room, was simply perfection. The tables were prettily "decorated with narcissi. The floor w'as in excellent order and the ball went with a 'swing throughout. The ladies were all prettily gowned. Among those present were Mrs R.J.Matthews, white embroided evening dres3 red roses on corsage; Mrs Fraser, pale green silk evening dress prettily trimmed with cream 3 lace cream roses on corsage; Mrs Bishop, evening dress of cream net over pale pink; Mrs Reynolds, black relieved with white; Mrs Forster, black silk, red trimmings; Mrs Hyde, pretty cream evening dress; Mrs Worthington, black satin relieved with pale pink: Mrs Carlisle, pale pink evening dress; Mrs M. Cowley, black silk relieved with white; Mrs Burr.and, white silk blouse dark skirt; Mrs C. Cowley, Hamilton, pale blue evening dress'with touches of black; Mrs Ward. Hamilton, with pale blue

ing dress. " - ' • On Friday evening the hall again presented a very gay appearance. This time the school children were assembled to have a gocd time. The head master Mr Lowe, and his assistants, Misses Jennings and Johnson, had a very busy time entertianing them. The evening was spent in playing games and dancing. The children were all regaled with a plentiful supply of refreshments and in the shape of cakes of every description, fruit and lollies, after which they dispersed highly pleased with their evening's entertainment. Mrs Bishop and Mrs Holden very hindly supplied the dance music. At the Otorohanga Court on September 17th, before E. C, Cutten, Esq., S.M., a Maori named Ngaiu was charged that on August 23th at Otorohanga, he did deliver four bottles of beer which were not labelled. He was further charged that on the same date he did aid and counsel Charles Haua to procure four bottles of beer at Te Awarr.utu. On the first charge he was convicted and fined -ten shillings and £2 Gs 6d costs, and on the ' second
he was fined 10s arid costs 12s.— Char-.--!es Haua was charged that on the same date he procured for Ngaru four bottles of beer at Te Awamutu for consumption
off the premises. He was convicted and fined £2 and costs £2 2s.— A sitting of the Assessment Court was also held and Mr John Ormsby appeared to fix the Kawa Drainage Board. There were no objectors and the. roll was altered accordingly.
