ACCIDENT AT MANGAOTAKI.
A painful accidentoccurred atMangaotaki on Wednesday of last week, the victim being a young man named Armstrong. When proceeding to work in the morning Armstrong was carrying with him a match box full of detonators and by mistake struck a match on the box. An explosion resulted and Armstrong's hand was badly shattered. He also received injuries to the face, but these are not expected to be dangerous. The unfortunate sufferer was brought to Paemako where a conveyance and pair of horses were obtained from Mr N. I. Hunt, and Armstrong was brought to Nurse Hattaway's at Te Kuiti and was attended by Dr Zobel. The journey from Paemako to Te Kuiti was very trying, and some idea of the state of the roads may be obtained from the fact that the party left Paemako about 10 o'clock in the morning, and did not arrive at Te Kuiti until after midnight, the distance travelled being about 20 miles.
