TRAGEDY NEAR KIHIKIHI.

A shocking tragedy occurred at Mangatautari on Friday last when a farmer named Arthur Frank Mason shot his infant son and afterwards committed suicide. Details to hand show that Mason, who hae been showing signs of insanity for some time, became dangerous on Friday. During the forenoon Mrs Mason narrowly prevented her husband from shooting the baby, but later on the man secured possession, of a borrowed gun and succeeded in perpetrating the ghastly act. An inquest was held on Monday, before Mr J. B. Tcasdale, District Coroner, when a verdict was returned that the deceased and his child had come to their deaths by gunshot wounds inflicted by the deceased, Arthur Frank Mason, during a fit of temporary insanity.
