HONIKIWI.

o The monthly social took place on Saturday night, and considering the state of the roads there was a good attendance. Dancing commenced at 8 p.m., and continued till midnight, with intervals for recitations and refreshments. The music was again provided by Messrs Coe, Purahau and Roe, and was much appreciated. Recitations were given by Misses A. and Marjory Budden, and Mr J. Coe. M r Coc's recitation, " When McDougal played cricket," fairly brought the house down. At the close Mr Budden thanked those present for their attendance, and pointed out that while everyone seemed to derive pleasure from the gatherings, the main object was to raise money to put the school and grounds in perfect order. The qnicker that object could be attained the greater would be the pleasure of those, who came on horseback, when they could turn their horses into a grass paddock. He, therefore, hoped each one present would come again and bring a companion with him to help build up the fund. General regret was expressed at the early departure of Mr S. G. Clarke and family from the district. Both Mr and Mrs Clarke have worked hard to make our socials successful, and all hope they will return to settle, permanently in the near future The state of the road between here and Otorohanga may be judged by the fact that a horse in a waggon team going out fell in a hole, and the other horses had to be taken out and hitched on to drag the fallen animal out. On the Hauturu road one (JJ* two culverts having fallen in were left in that dangerous cc *dition for some weeks.
