PIOPIO.

A largely-attended meeting of settlers was held in the Mairoahuia Hall, on June 7th, in connection with the Railway League. Mr O'Dwyer read the Premier's reply to the petition, asking him to be present at the opening of the bridge. Mr Verry moved, and Mr Evans seconded, that a deputation consisting of six members of the Executive meet the Premier at Te Kuiti, Messrs Hunt, Elliott, Daly, Rawstron, Jackson, O'Dwyer, consenting to act. Mr Hunt moved that the arrangements of providing lunch be left in the hands of the committee, seconded by Mr Rawstron and carried. - It was decided to accept the offer of Messrs Evans and Robison to provide lunch for the Premier.

A committee, consisting of the following, was set up to carry out arrangements : Messrs Keighly, Davis, Williams, Battley, Sincock, Churcher, Gleadow, Anthony, Johnston, Box, Hickman.

It was resolved that the meeting ask Mrs H. Russell to take part in the opening of the bridge. A. programme was drawn up as follows : Lunch, Addresses of Welcome, Deputations, Premier's Reply, Opening of Bridge. Arrangements have been made with Mr Hattaway to leave Te Kuiti with the Premier's party at 9.30. A change of horses will be made at Piopio, and it is expected that the Premier will reach the bridge at 1.30, leaving again for Te Kuiti at 2.30 sharp, where it is expected to reach between6and 7p.m.

As there has been some doubt existing in the minds of some concerning the exact time of the Premier's arrival, the following telegram received by Mr Elliott", will put the matter beyond doubt: —"I shall be glad to fall in with your arrangements in connection with the opening of Wairere bridge on the 17th. The time fixed for return to Te Kult is a suitable one."

it is to be hoped the settlers will turn out in large numbers to greet the Premier, as his visit is of great importance to the back block settler.
