MATIERE.

A most enjoyable and acceptable programme was presented in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening, June 2nd, by the local Dramatic and Musical Society. The object of the entertainment was to secure funds to finish the interior of the hall, and with the splendid support and attendance of the settlers, the object in view was attained. The programme, which was a very lengthy one, was highly creditable, and every item was well received. The comic songs of Mr H. Hyde being particularly acceptable. The highly amusing comedietta " Anthony's Legacy," was admirably performed by Messrs Le Cccq, Mossman, and A. O'Brien, Mrs A. H. Hyde and Miss O'Brien, and the next appearance in comedy of the members of the Society will be looked forward to. Several chorus songs were rendered by members of the Matiere Football Club, and the following ladies and gentlemen also assisted to make the evening an enjoyable one: —Messrs A. H. and Bert Hyde, Beresford, Stanle.v, Loveday, Bear, Bicheno, T. O'Brien, Le Cocq and Mossman, Mrs A. H. Hyde, Misses Loveday and O'Brien. The concert was followed by a dance, and was enjoyed by a number of friends, particularly the grand finale the Buck set. The best thanks is certainly due to the ungrudging assistance rendered by Mrs Hyde as accompanist for the concert and dance.

A wedding of considerable interest in the Ohura district took place on the4thinst, the contracting parties being Miss Margreta Simmons, the eldest daughter of Mr T. Simmons, and Mr Gordon R. Mossman, the eldest son of Mr Mossman, headteacher of the Marton High School. The ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride's parents, the Rev. W. H. Wise being the officiating clergyman. The bride looked very nice in a pretty cream lustre dress trimmed with insertion, and the usual veil and orange blossoms. The bridesmaid, Miss Constance Sowry, was dressed in a cream cashmere dress trimmed with lace. Mr T. E. Roe, cousin of the bridegroom, acted as best man. A nice wedding breakfast was then partaken of, the toast of the bride and groom being proposed by Mr Wise. The happy couple then left for a trip to Marton. The bride was the recipient of a number of very nice presents.
