TAUMARUNUI.
The local brass band held a very successful Ball on Wednesday evening, June 3rd, in the Town Hall. The attendance was splendid, and with the assistance of good music and a fast floor, every person present thoroughly enjoyed themselves —so much so that daylight was almost at hand when the dancers cried enough. The Ball reflected gre.it credit upon the committee responsible. A representative public meeting was held on Thursday evening, June 4th, to make arrangements for a suitable reception to the Premier on his approaching visit to the district. Considerable interest was manifested by the residents, and a committee was formed to arrange details. Several very important proposals were brought forward at the public meeting, and, with the object of bringing the disadvantages the town and district are now under before the Premier, with the hopes of there being a speedy remedy, a powerful deputation committee now have the matter in hand. With the unanimous supsort of the settlers behind the deputation, good results and favourable consideration by the Government is hoped for.
