TE AWAMUTU.

The regular monthly meeting of . V the Te Awamutu Town Board was held on Thursday, when there were ( present : Messrs J. B. Teasdale (chairman), H. Collins, M. S. , Laurie and D. Docket. Government "Valuer, adjusted certain valuations in Te Awamutu. The I number of new buildings valued was twentv-one. The Chairman reported that the Government road machine was at work on the new roads through Teas- | dale Settlement. The road, half way to the Nation, would be one chain and 1 a-half wide and the new roads one 1 chain. . ! Mr Bockett reported that satisiac- ( torv progress was being made with reference to the establishment of the , local telephone exchange, and more than the required number of guarantees had been obtained. As a result 1 of Mr Medding's recent visit before < long the posts would be erected in position. It was decided to endeavour to have the local railway office connected, and the matter was left in Mr Bockett's hands. . The Chairman stated that, with Mr Burd, he had gone into the question of town drainage. Mr Burd suggested that the whole of the town drainage be turned into the new drainage area - as laid off by the Government, and the drain in front of the Bank of New Zealand, which has caused much annoyance of recent years, closed. It was decided to act on Mr Burd's suggestion, the Chairman being authorised to carry out the scheme. The Chairman was authorised to call tenders for widening the Station road footpath to the full extent from the bottom of White's Hill to Goodfellow street, the spoil to be carried into the hollow on the new road close bv. . It was decided to fence in the new salevards' site. The Clerk reported that the cheque for the purchase of the freehold had been forwarded to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and the provisional Crown grant duly issued. The following accounts were passed for pavment: M. A. Going £l 7s id. Gifford and Dunkley £i 4s /d.
