KAEAEA.
o j A meeting of settlers was held in ! - the Kaeaca schoolroom, on Saturday Evening last, for ih-? purpo.se o? fanning*' a Dcienee Kii;c C:u;\ -<s» i? - Hearn occupied the chair, and Mr A. ; Backhouse was elected secretary pro. tem. Mr Hearn had previously com- j municated with the defence author!- ! ties on the subject, and was able to give all information required in regard • to regulations and rules. After a ; short discussion on the matter, it was moved by 3Sir A. Backnouse, and ; seconded bv Mr 5- V.' ilnamson, that a Rifle Club be formed, to be called the Kaeaea Defence Rifle Club, if the required number of members be obtained. Several names were given in of those willing to join, and there seems every indication of getting tne required number. The meeting was then adjourned to a future date, the secretarv being instructed to call a meeting when sufficient names are received. In the meantime a suitaole site for a range is to be looked for. It is to be hoped that this movement will receive tlie full support of the settlers in the district, as it is a move in the right direction —to make good marksmen to defend the Dominion should the occasion arise.
