N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.

Te Kuiti Branch. A general meeting of members of the above was held at the secretary's ; office on Saturday evening last, when there was a fair attendance of farmers. Mr Boddie was in the chair. Messrs Soloman, R. Cotter and Seymour were elected members of the branch. The amount of annual subscription was fixed at 7s 6d. After considerable discussion with regard to the political attitude of the Union, it was proposed by Mr Berry, seconded by Mr Soloman, that in the opinion of the branch the time had not arrived for forming a separate political party to be identified with the N.Z. Farmers' Union, and that the delegate from the Te Kuiti branch be instructed to oppose this x'emit at the Provincial Conference. The feeling of the meeting was adverse to pressing for the repeal of the Arbitration Act as applying to the farming community. The delegate to the Provincial Conference was requested to support the remit applying for information to the Roads Department as to the allocation and expenditure of thirds. It was resolved that the Conference urge upon the Government the necessity of assisting immigrants of the farm labouring class, as they were urgently required for the development of newly settled districts. It was also resolved, on the motion of Mr Fortescue, that a due share of the official cablegrams to England should be specially allotted to the farming interests. Major Lusk attended, and explained some of the hardships imposed upon the undeveloped districts owing to the Government subsidies being ap- - portioned strictly* on the basis of rates raised. The members present fully endorsed Major Lusk's views on this matter, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
