WAIKATO HOSPITAL EXPENDITURE.
The committee set up to go into the matter of the increase in the cost of provisions met on Monday of last week, and after getting explanations by Dr. Douglas, expressed the opinion that a satisfactory explanation had been given as to the increase in cost, and rcommended that a strict system of check in delivery of goods be inaugurated. The following table shows the cost of rations in a number of hospitals handling a similar number of patients as the Waikato institutionThe table also shows the fees collected, the Waikato Hospital topping the list in this respect: — Waikato: Patients 615, rations £llß3 13s Bd, daily cost 6s oHd, daily average of fees collected per head, is 5%d; Palmerston North: 486, £731 93 3d, 6s, is 2%d; Napier: 596, £1364 8s Id, 6s 3d, 2d; Timaru, 558, £1736 16s 9d, ss, SVzd, rcargill: 512, £1025 14s id, 4s gd, BMd; Wanganui: 631, £1448 2s lOd, 4s sd, 5%d; Thames : 479, £529, 3s Id, is.
