PUKETARATA.

A very enjoyable evening was spent at the Puketarata school on Friday evening last. The Otorohanga Glee Club drove out, and supplied the musical portion of the programme, and scored a great success on this their first appearance as a Club. The Club was composed of Mesdamcs H. M. Quin, Lyall, Misses Connell, Jennings, W. Johnson, Messrs C. J. Johnson, F. Forster, P. Johnson, H. Burchell, Matthews (2), C. Irvine, J. Morris and H. Horner. Miss Johnson, with her usual kindness, played the accompaniments. Mr C. Irvine gave a very finished display of club swinging, and Miss Jennings was deservedly encored for her singing of " Why won't they play with me," and then pleased the audience with "Violets." Mr Forster gave the " Admiral's Broom," and on being recalled brought down the house by his singing " Delaney's Chickens." Others who gave solos were: Mesdamcs Quin, Lyall, Messrs C. J. Johnson, P. Johnson, P. Matthews and C. Irvine (songs), Miss Connell (piano), and Mr H. Horner (violin). The full chorus sung " The Ring-tailed Coon," " De Ole Banjo " and "Good Night." After a good supper, generously supplied by the Puketarata ladies, Mr Budge proposed a vote of thanks to the " Otorohanga Glee Club." Dancing was enthusiastically kept up till an early hour. A crowded house resulted in a nice sum being handed over to the School Committee to be used to improve the playground.
