MATIERE.

A meeting of settlers was held in the Mangapapa School on Wednesday, the 4th inst., to discuss the proposed alteration in the Stratford-On-garue Railway route. Mr E. Sowry occupied the Chair. After considerable discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr W. A. Carter, seconded by Mr Etherington, to send the following resolution to the Minister of Public Works " That this meeting of settlers strongly protest against the proposed deviation of the Stratford - Ongarue Railway route, via Puketutu and Waitawhenua, as they consider it would be a grave breach of faith with the Ohura settlers." The Matiere School Picnic is to be held on Friday week in Mr Hunt's paddock. About £l2 has been collected by the children towards the picnic and prize funds.
