KING COUNTRY LAND TENURE.

Ohura Petitions

(Own Correspondent)

Wellington, Thursday.

A long discussion ensued in Parliament this afternoon on the petition of Mr Sowry, and seventy lother settlers in Ohura, praying that as they had no chance of taking up their lands under the optional tenures at the outset, they be allowed to convert from lease in perpetuity to occupation with right of purchase. Mr Jennings spoke strongly in support of the petition being supported by Messrs Greenslade, Laing, Symes and others. The position of the settlers in Kawhia and their tenures was also discussed, and the whole question will be brought on again when the Land Bill will be in the Committee of the House.
