THE LAND HUNGER.

Ballot for Troopers' Sections, Te Kuiti. The ballot for the Troopers' sections," near Te Kuiti, which were thrown open for selection on September 18th, excited the keenest interest throughout the district, and attracted alarge number of land-seekers from far and near. As showing the progress -made in the district it is interesting to note that a few years ago the same sections were offered for selection to Returned South African Troopers. Several were taken up but it was found that the areas were in most instances too small, and over twenty of the lots were allowed to remain unoccupied, The Lands Department recently re-arranged the se&r tions, and by throwing two of them together made the respective areas considerably larger. The closing date for applications was fixed for September 17th, when a total of 818 for the eleven lots were received. The following is the result of the ballot: Lot I, Larson, Wairarapa Lot 2, Jones, Hamilton Lot 3, Early, Wellington Lot 4, Riddle, Aria Lot 5, Steel, Te Kuiti Lot 6, Steel, Te Kuiti - Lot 7, Boddy, Eltham Lot 8, Cleayer, Eltham ~\s hot 10, Pettigrew, Dannevirke +.— Lot 11, McDonald, Pongaroa
