PROPOSED ODDFELLOWS' LODGE.

A meeting of those interested in the formation of an Oddfellows' Lodge in Te Kuiti, was held on Thursday evening last in Helet's 11 all, there being a good number ol residents present. Mr Mordaunt was voted to the chair and explained the objects to be derived from such an institution. He stated that: already one meeting had been called for the purpose of securing' the services of a medical man for the district, and he thought that the opening of a lodge at Te Kuiti would be the means of giving more assistance lo the project. He went on to say that all the information in connection with the opening of a lodge had been obtained, and he would be pleased to answer any questions those present might wish to ask. Messrs Andrews and Larritl both spoke of the benefits to be derived, when assistance wa.s required, from an Oddfellows' Lodge. Mr Jer. Ormsbv said that if the Oddfellows were going on their own in the mallei'of a medical man, the present movement made by the medical fund might drop, and appointment of a doctor would be again deferred. Several others present expressed their opinions, and after some discussion Mr Kutherl'ord, jun., proposed, and Mr Andrews seconded: "That a branch of the M.IJ., 1.0.0. F. be opened in Te Kuiti." As an amendment, Mr Power proposed, and Mr Archer seconded: "That (he formation of an Oddfellows' Lodge in Te Kuiti be deferred, pending arrangements made by the Medical Fund." After a vote was taken the original motion was declared carried, and a committee, consisting of Messrs Sims, Larritt, Poole, Harrow, Vause, Morgan, Andrews, Smith, Rutherford and Packcnham, was elected to go into the matter and report to another meeting, of which due notice will be given.
