OHURA VALLEY.

The first dairy factory to claim recognition in the Ohura is the Ohura Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, which was duly registered last week. Arrangements in connection with the factories projected by Messrs MacEwan and Co-, and Griffiths and Co., are still progressing, and there is every prospect of both firms becoming established in the district. It is hard to see where a sufficient supply to keep both factories running is coming from for the first season or two, but after that there is no reason why they should not each be running profitably. The country is here and settlement is steadily increasing, and the establishment of creameries and factories in a-district is always a big factor in its progress. With proper roading, which is coming nearer each year, there is no fear of the dairying industry being allowed to lag. This valley is eminently suitable for close settlement and at no very distant date factories and creameries will be established in many other centres than those now chosen. Winter has now arrived in earnest, and the roads which, up to within the last week or two, have been exceptionally good, are now showing indubitable signs of breaking up badly. However, the mild season has assured us of a much shorter winter siege than usual, and settlers are proportionately thankful. There have been several pretty sharp frosts already, and the one experienced on Monday last was exceptionally heavy. Stock in general is looking well, and the sheep brought in during the summer are thriving.
