HANGATIKI.
Consequent upon the death last week of a Maori lady of good bloo I, another largetangi has been held here. The deceased was a sister to John Teoni, of this district. As rabbit poisoners, with theirbaits of torture ?nd death, have lately patis'd thr ugh Hangatiki, rabbits are not nearly so numerous as they were some time ago.
Winter, though belated, is now upon us, and grass is becoming scanty. Mr Johnson has taken up his abode on the farm which he recently purchased from Mr Berriman.
A tender of £268 10s, for building the Hangatiki school, has been accepted, but nothing further has yet been done.
Mid-winter, Easter and Michaelmas holidays are to be held together, so that the " tent," which is doing duty as the school, will be closed for three weeks while the roads are bad.
