KAEAEA.

A social was held in the Kaeaea school house on Friday, the 31st ult.,and was well attended by residents from this and surrounding districts, some having journeyed from Aria and Parahika to avail themselves of the opportunity of having a " hop." About seventy were present and all fully enjoyed themselves, and pronounced the function to be a thorough success. Mr A. Guiscn very ablyacted as M.C., and kept everything in swimming order from start to finish, and I feel sure that I only voice the opinion of everyone present when I say that the major portion of the success of the function achieved, was due to efficiency and tact of our M.C. An ample supper was provided by the local ladies. During the evening songs were rendered by Mesdames A. Brough and C. Riddle, and Messrs G. Nelson, J. Brough, W. Bennett, and R- Hickman. Recitations were given by Messrs A. Gulson, and R. Riddle. The musical contributions v/ere a manifestation that the district is not lacking in vocal talent. Great credit redounds upon Messrs W. Bennett and G. Williamson, v, he _ were the chief movers in promoting '.he gal hiring. These gentlemen ir.i-.st •have felt gratified at finding the first pr.ci; 1 in the district, proneuncxd ri.ch an eminent success. The p:.rty broke up shortly before day-break and some went home to their blankets and some to their dungarees, but all feeling that they had spent a real enjoyable time. New buildings are still going up around about our district and the pit sawyers are very busy at present supplying the great demand for timber.
