MANUNUI.
Football is the main topic of the day here, and it seems likely to be for sometime. So far, Manunui have won all their matches, though only the first of three rounds have been played. The juniors started on Saturday last, when Manunui journeyed to Taumarunui, while Kakihi had a bye, there being only three junior teams contesting. The football social on Friday last was one of the most enjoyable affairs we have had here, although owing to the very rough weather a great many from other parts of the district did not attend. However, about forty couples turned out, and kept up the dance until 4 a.m. on Saturday. The P.P. Timber Company had their engine running on May 28th, for the first time. This firm is getting rapidly into shape and will very soon be cutting timber. Hooks and Co. have made a start with a building, to contain two shops and a billiard room, while several new cottages are in the course of erection .on Messrs Ellis and Burnand's property.
