MATIERE.

The Mangaroa Minstrels gave a very successful entertainment in the MatiereHall on Tuesday, May 28th m aid of the funds of that hall. The threatening weather no doubt accounted for the small attendance, but those who risked the elements went home well pleased with the bill of fare offered. The first part of the programme consisted of song, contributed by Mesdames A" H. Hyde, Bell, Carter Miss Loveday, and Messrs Hyde, Carter and Samuels. Mr and Mrs Hyde and Mr Hill also contributed a trio with excellent effect. Special must be made of the items contributed by Mesdames Hyde and Carter and Miss Loveday, all of whom were in excellent voice and amply demonstrated that musical talent is yet to be found in the Ohura district. Mrs A. H. Hyde accompanied throughout the evening in her usual masterly manner. What Matiere would do without this lady, I know not The Minstrels were some-

what handicapped by some of their performers being unable to appear through illness, but managed by pressing three Mntiere gentlemen into tlHr rankr., to give an excellent r.how. Mr Hoidswcrth, as "Tambo," and Mr C. Manning, as " Bones," resnecciv ly kept the audience in roars of laughter with thi h- quaint vagaries and were ?M- ei:ro~ , rted by the rest of the company. Tue entertainment concluded with a farce entitled " The Ghost," which was heartily received by the audience. The floor of the hall having been cleared, dancing was indulged in with great gusto tfll the small hours in the morning. Mrs Hyde kindly supplied the music for dancing and also-catered for supper in her most lavish manner, and from remarks heard from several in the hall during the night, outshone all her previous efforts.
