TE RAU-A-MOA.

Matters in connection with the proposed public hall are progressing favourably, and the support accorded the project so far has been highly satisfactory. A meeting was held on Saturday night last for the purpose of furthering th - project, and about thirty ' et'.l r.-- promised £1 each, with the guarantee of an increased amount up to £5 should the call be necessary. We are thus in a position to feel that The success of the scheme is assured, and the hall should be the means of drawing the settlers into more frequent social intercourse, and be an added pleasure to all in the district. A pest of grasshoppers and caterpillars has visited the district of late, and the crops of rape and turnips on new burns have-suffered accordingly. A large area has just been put down in grass and it is to be hoped no further damage will be done, as much of the prosperity of the district depend* upon having good crops on the new land. The past season has been a good one and grass is still showing plentifully. We are all hoping for another good winter to give settlers a good start for next season.
