FIRE AT TAUMARUNUI.
A disastrous fire occurred at Taumarunui on Wednesday night last, resulting in the destruction of the premises occupied by Mr A. G. Kenderdine, chemist, and the billiardroom adjoining. So far as can be ascertained the conflagration started in in the billiard-room, and rapidly spread to the adjoining premises. Everything possible was done, to cope with the fire and save the contents of shop and dwelling, but when the alarm was given the fire had a good hold, and all that could be done was to prevent the spread of the conflagration further down the street. Mr Kenderdine is a heavj," loser, as is also Dr Cairns, who lost all his medical instruments and furniture, which were not insured.
